DAHN TSUKIGATA
the bet's on, and there's no backslidin'!

BACKGROUND

TL;DR: Dahn comes from a parallel universe in which the Taisho era of Japan lasted for at least six years longer than it did in our own, and demons are all too real and run rampant outside of the purview of the majority of humanity. Born into a clan of assassins, Dahn is raised for combat and dark work. He serves his family faithfully until he discovers a dark secret about the practices of his clan. Upon finding his sister Akane is next in line for sacrifice to preserve these practices, he rebels in order to save his sister from suffering, and in the process almost brings an apocalypse upon the world.

PERSONALITY

A large part of Dahn is 'what you see is what you get': rough, wild, hotheaded. He's very much a man of action over words and has a bad tendency of running off on his own plans without listening to anyone else. Whatever he's doing, he's confident in himself and his work, and it leads him to completely ignore anyone else's wishes or advice; after all, most of the time they're just trying to get in his way. More than that, he's an emotional type with passion in spades, and it can lead him to be temperamental, especially when he feels he and his are being threatened. He has no issues resorting to violence when he feels it's necessary, nor is he above using intimidation to cow others into obedience. That said, he doesn't throw his weight around willy-nilly. He's not a bully to anyone who isn't on his hit list or who doesn't provoke him first.

As unpleasant and coarse as he can initially appear, Dahn isn't just a brute. He's actually more levelheaded than he seems and tries to think his options through and plan things out, even if the course of action he decides on isn't always the best. His work makes him an analytical type, capable of piecing together a person's habits and likely course of action so he can keep a step ahead. And as aggressive as he can be, he's not unreasonable either, willing to explain himself and get people to see his side with conversation rather than violence. He's capable of stepping around his own bias to see people for who they are, as well as owning up for his own mistakes and downfalls with a surprising amount of humility and honesty. It's these aspects of him that make him charismatic, someone others look toward, along with his intense loyalty to those he cares for. Dahn is the kind of person willing to go through hell in order to protect those he loves and can inspire such in others in turn.

Mostly, he's a man who knows himself and has the confidence to show for it. Oftentimes this confidence can come off as obnoxious and cocky, leading him to casually dismiss those he sees as beneath him, or throw himself into a plan without regarding the potential consequences of failure first. He'd even be the first to admit that it sometimes brings more than a little trouble with it, both for himself and those around him. But being true to himself is the only way Dahn knows how to live, and so he accepts everything that comes with it. With the good, he brings up others and protects the futures and hopes of those he loves; for the bad, he shoulders his mistakes and carries onward, doing his best to make up for what he's done. No matter what he does, Dahn puts all of himself on the line.

ABILITIES

Insect control: The Tsukigata's style of assassination is distinct, revolving around utilizing bugs called luck locusts to drain their targets of their, well, luck. In canon, the drainage of luck is so severe as to have dire consequences, being as minor as continuously slipping on banana peels to as severe as hospitalization via freak accident. The flow of luck isn't one way either. The locusts can bestow their stored up luck onto a target to make them freakishly lucky as well. It allows the Tsukigata to frame their hits as accidents yet leave a distinct signature, as well as make them nigh untouchable.

This insect control also extends to giant locusts called soldier bugs, utilized as manpower and transportation by the Tsukigata.

Teleportation: Using the luck locusts, Dahn can teleport across a physical space or disappear from an area completely. Without a locust on him, he has no access to this ability.

Fukorutsubo: Dahn is capable of using a clan art called the Fukorutsubo. The Fukorutsubo is an illusory space that sits outside of physical space, made up of twisting corridors that connect in ways that don't adhere to the laws of physics. It's made to trap and confuse victims, and leave them at the hands of the demonic entities lurking within.

Combat experience: Dahn's been trained for a large part of his life as an assassin. He's an experienced combatant in martial arts, capable of handling a chain sickle weapon with ease, and also utilizes fire and poison in battle in order to injure and disorient his enemies. He's also a sneaky bastard by trade, able to move about quickly and silently. He has the ability to see demons and the skill to go toe to toe with them, marking him as an above-average threat.

Magic use: While Dahn is more proficient with physical combat than magic, he does have magic in his arsenal, mostly centered around fire attacks or buffing his own abilities.

EXTRA

- Grew up in the boonies and has the accent (and colloquialisms) to show for it. His accent isn't quite as thick as some of the other villagers, but it's definitely noticeable against city folk.
- Both of Dahn's arms have been tattoed with something called a Death Ward. The ward allows him to control the luck locusts he uses by making him appear as a corpse in the view of the locusts so they don't turn on him and try to feast on his luck. The ink of the tattoo is poisonous, and it's taken a few years off his lifespan to get it done, along with staining the skin of his arms and hands a dark purple up to his biceps. HC: It also makes his blood poisonous, and he's able to use it to poison others. The ward also dulls his sense of touch/pain and makes his hands feel colder on average to touch.
- HC: He's far more flexible than you'd imagine from a man with his frame. He can bend into shapes that'll make you wonder where his bones are.
